Ahead of 2019 general elections, Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello has commenced spiritual approach through oath taking and commitments from the aspirants and supporters to work towards the success of the APC, using the holy books of Quaran and the Bible as well as some quantity of concocted water
The moves expected to go round the state had commenced from Kogi east with Ankpa local government as pilot scheme which is expected to spread gradually to other parts of the area
Already, the governor and his aides sensing the people’s body language not to support or vote for the APC owing to his glaring maladministration and bad governance, believed the new trick will check mate sharp practices and safeguard his chances during the primary election of the APC in Kogi state, yet no serious contenders has indicated interest in battling the APC ticket with the incumbency but is being rumoured that the NARSDA boss Prof Seidu Onailo who is from majority side of the state may likely venture into the race for the APC ticket should his tenure in office expires before the Kogi state election,
The idea mooted by the governor is to further demobilise the people from dual loyalty and political jobbers who may likely not continue to support his administration as a result of his dwindling popularity and rejection by the people
By this oath, the aspirants to various elective offices will be nominated under the party tickets including winning the forthcoming election in the state and national assembly and will in turn vote and extend support for the governor later in November 2019 governorship election
By implications of this spiritual obligations the political class is been subjected to by Kogi governor, is to coerce them into perpetually drumming for the support of APC and his aspirations as any contrary may lead to the death of people on allegiance through financial inducements or otherwise
Desperate to return to lugard house at all cost, with all the odds, devices and tricks working against him, the governor bought into the spiritual and oath device to realise his inordinate ambition and the chances of the party in the state
It is on record to all eligible voters in the state,that the attempt at a second shot by the governor may face stiff resistance from all parts of the state for glaring injustice against the state workforce, death of infrastructure and lack of clear road map to the development of the state.
There has been minced reaction in Kogi state due to the governance style of Bello speaking with THE NIGERIA TIMES, Alhaji Abuh the APC stalwart in Ankpa who worked for the late Audu victory said today ” Buhari popularity is declining due to the facts that so many believe that the President himself is giving undue support to the governor who doesn’t care about the feelings of the people.
Ibrahim Otaru said the governor is not comfortable with Adam Oshiomole considering the facts that Bello tirelessly worked for Chief John Odigie Oyegu to continue as the APC boss but failed, Otaru said Oshimoles comment of not giving ticket to governor owing salaries is aiming at Bello knowing fully well that Bello can never meet up with salaries challenges before the next APC primary, immediately after resumption as the national chairman of the APC the former governor of Edo State issued a stern warning that “the APC will not risk its ticket by giving mandate to any governor owing worker salaries” The development do not go down well with the Kogi state government that fall to that very category, Bello is being rumoured to be owing workers in different categories of salaries, the body language of the APC national chairman has forced Kogi APC to go extra measure by adopting even spiritual measure to secure a solid foundation for the governor who may likely go for the second term.
